Ms. DuPont retired from Enbridge Inc., where she served for 12 years as the senior executive responsible for information technology, human resources, public and government affairs, corporate governance matters, and corporate social responsibility (CSR). In her role, she reported to the President and CEO and was part of a small team of 7 that provided strategic leadership to the organization. She joined Enbridge in 1998 after 20 years of prior executive experience. Early in her career, she worked for the Saskatchewan Power Corporation where she was the first woman appointed to a Superintendent role. She also worked for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, and later served on the Board of Viterra, where she was the first woman in the executive management and the first woman on the Board.
Ms. DuPont was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan and raised on a mixed farm near that city. She holds a Bachelor’s degree (Great Distinction) from the University of Regina and earned her Master’s degree at the University of Calgary. She is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors, and a 2006 graduate of the ICD Corporate Directors’ Education Program. She is also a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) and is a member of the International Women’s Forum (IWF). Ms. DuPont was named to the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada list each year from 2001 to 2006 and in 2007 was inducted into the Top 100 Hall of Fame. In 2008 she was presented with an Honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Regina and in 2011 received an honorary degree from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, recognizing her contributions in the area of science and technology. Ms. DuPont was the first woman to join the Board of the Calgary Petroleum Club and later became the chair of that Board. She continued to serve the industry in a volunteer capacity with the Saskatchewan Oilman’s Association until earlier this year. She was awarded the Peter Lougheed Award for Leadership by the Public Policy Forum in October 2013, and will be awarded a Fellowship in the Institute of Corporate Directors on June 4, 2015.
Ms. DuPont serves on a number of boards of both publicly traded companies, and not for profit organizations. She serves on the Board of Bird Construction, a TSX listed company that was founded in 1929 and operates in 9 provinces in Canada. She also serves on the Audit Committee and chairs the Human Resources, Safety and Governance Committee of that Board. Ms. DuPont is a Chair of the Board of Governors of the University of Calgary and has served on that Board since 2006. She also serves on the Board of Nav Canada, serving as the chair of the Human Resources and Compensation Committee. She joined the Nav Canada Board in 2012.
In recent years, Bonnie has also served on the Boards of the Bank of Canada, AltaGas, Alliance Pipelines, UTS Energy, Silverbirch Energy and several others.
In addition to her board work, Ms. DuPont provides management consulting services to several large Canadian companies.
